NNPC raises pump price to N897/litre

On Tuesday, September 3, just two days after announcing it was over $6 billion in debt due to high petrol prices, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Limited increased the price of fuel from N617 per litre to N897 per litre. This change is an increase of over 45%.

People visiting NNPC Retail stations in Abuja noticed the new price immediately.

When contacted by Vanguard on Tuesday, September 3, Olufemi Soneye, the company’s Chief Communications Officer, said he was not aware of the price increase.

He responded via WhatsApp, saying, “I’m not aware of this. Thank you for reaching out. I have no comment on the matter at this time. If there are any updates, I will make sure to inform you. I appreciate your understanding.”

Earlier, a message on social media had hinted at the new price. The message said, “Good morning all. This is to inform you that NNPC Retail Management has approved an upward review of PMS pump price from N617/litre to N897/litre effective today, 3rd September 2024. Please, ensure all your pumps and totems (price boards)/MIDs reflect the new PMS price of N897/litre. Thank you.”
