NNPC and Dangote end oil feud to secure Nigeria’s energy future

After months of tension and strong rivalry, Nigeria’s top oil companies—NNPC Limited and Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals—have finally agreed to work together.

The two industry giants met on Friday, May 9, in Abuja and promised to team up to make sure Nigeria has a steady supply of energy and a brighter economic future.

The meeting followed a long-running fuel price war between the companies, which had even caused the government’s crude-for-Naira deal to be paused. That deal was only brought back after major leadership changes at NNPC.

During the visit, Mr. Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Group, told NNPC’s new boss, Mr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, that his company doesn’t see NNPC as a rival.
“There is no competition between us… This is an era of co-operation between the two organizations,” Dangote said.

He also congratulated Ojulari and his team on their new roles, saying the challenges ahead are big, but he’s confident the NNPC team is up to the task.

Ojulari responded with warmth and optimism, promising a “mutually beneficial partnership” based on teamwork and positive competition. He praised the hardworking professionals at NNPC and said the company is focused on delivering real value to Nigerians.

He added that NNPC is ready to “build a legacy of national prosperity” and will keep working with the Dangote Group, especially when it benefits the country commercially.

Both leaders also agreed to act as the “relationship managers” for their companies, ensuring they continue working closely and responsibly in the future.
