Mohamed Salah makes history with exciting third Player of the Year award win

On Friday, May 9, Mohamed Salah was named the Football Writers’ Association Player of the Year for the third time! He helped lead Liverpool to an amazing season, matching a record by winning their 20th English league title.

Salah had an incredible season—he scored 28 goals and made 18 assists in the Premier League. That means he helped score more goals in a 38-game season than any player ever before!

He got almost 90 percent of the writers’ votes, which is the biggest winning margin in the 21st century. Salah beat Liverpool teammate Virgil van Dijk, who came in second. Alexander Isak from Newcastle was third, and Declan Rice from Arsenal came fourth.

This win makes Salah the only player besides former Arsenal star Thierry Henry to win the award three times. He also won it in 2017-18 and 2021-22.

The 32-year-old ended rumors about his future by signing a new contract that will keep him at Liverpool until 2027.

“I’m happy to stay,” Salah said. “This club means everything to me.”

His big decision makes Liverpool strong favorites to go for a record 21st league title next season, which would make them the most successful top-flight team in England.

In the women’s category, Alessia Russo from Arsenal was also a big winner! She finished ahead of last year’s champion, Khadija Shaw.
