Nigerian forward Suleiman Abdullahi parts ways with IFK Göteborg amid injury struggles

On Monday, February 10, 2025, Nigerian forward Suleiman Abdullahi officially terminated his contract with Swedish club IFK Göteborg after a difficult spell marred by injuries.
The 28-year-old former Flying Eagles striker had joined the Swedish side from Bundesliga club Union Berlin in 2022. Over his time at Blåvitt, Abdullahi played in 30 matches and netted just one goal, a far cry from the potential expected of him when he signed.
IFK Göteborg’s sporting director, Hannes Stiller, spoke about the decision to part ways, acknowledging the player’s struggles: “Sulle has struggled despite several lingering injuries. Neither he nor we feel that we got the most out of each other, but we part as very good friends. Sulle is a nice guy who we wish success in his next club.”
Before his stint in Sweden, Abdullahi had also played for Norwegian club Viking FK and German side Eintracht Braunschweig. With his contract now terminated, the forward will be looking for his next move as he continues his career.
