Taking praise behind bars
Gospel artist and pastor Nathaniel Bassey is marking his 44th birthday in an unconventional but powerful way—by celebrating with inmates at Kirikiri Medium Security Prison in Lagos.
The worship leader shared the news on Instagram, announcing that he’ll host a special, one-day edition of his popular worship event, the Halleluyah Challenge, inside the prison walls.
“Tomorrow for my birthday, I praise and celebrate with my brethren in prison,” Bassey wrote.
A different kind of birthday party
Rather than throwing a typical celebration, Bassey is choosing to create a spirit-filled worship experience for inmates—bringing light and hope through music and prayer.
It’s part of his ongoing mission to use worship as a tool for transformation and connection, especially for those in difficult situations.

Launched in 2017, the Halleluyah Challenge is a nightly online worship movement that brings together thousands of people across Africa and beyond for one hour of praise, prayer, and testimonies.
