NANS southwest hails Davido’s appointment as Osun sports trust fund chairman

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Southwest Zone D, has commended the appointment of Nigerian music star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, as the Chairman of the Osun State Sports Trust Fund by Governor Ademola Adeleke.

In a statement signed by the Assistant General Secretary of the zone, Comrade Adeyemo Josiah Kayode, also known as Billioncodes, NANS described the appointment as a “well-deserved and visionary move” by the state government.

According to the statement, the association praised Governor Adeleke and his deputy, Prince Kola Adewusi, for their commitment to youth inclusion and innovation in governance through the appointment of the globally celebrated Afrobeat icon.

“This strategic appointment is not only a bold step toward sports development but also a rare blend of influence, innovation, and excellence in governance,” the statement read. “The inclusion of Davido — a household name and international figure — in this administration’s agenda is a clear signal that Osun State is redefining leadership, embracing youth potential, and unlocking the creative and philanthropic strength of its citizens.”

NANS further lauded the state government’s efforts toward completing the Osogbo Township Stadium to Olympic standards, describing the project as a major boost for youth engagement, talent development, and economic growth.

The students’ body also applauded the proposed establishment of the Osun State Sports Commission, calling it a commendable step toward strengthening institutional frameworks for sports management and infrastructure development.

“As representatives of millions of Nigerian students, we affirm that this initiative has not gone unnoticed. The student community across the Southwest stands in full admiration and support of this forward-thinking stride,” the statement added.

NANS pledged its readiness to collaborate with the Osun State Government in promoting youth-driven sports development, describing the initiative as a model for effective youth inclusion in governance.
