NAFDAC busts fake alcohol packaging factory in Lagos, seizes N2 billion worth of contraband
On Thursday, November 21, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) successfully raided a factory in Lagos involved in the illegal packaging of counterfeit alcohol. The agency intercepted over 50,000 fake branded labels and packaging materials, with an estimated value of N2 billion.
The operation took place at Article Market in Abule-Osun, Lagos State, where NAFDAC officials dismantled the illegal operations. The counterfeit materials were being used to produce unapproved and potentially hazardous alcoholic beverages.
NAFDAC issued a strong warning about the severe health risks posed by counterfeit alcohol, which can lead to poisoning, organ damage, and other serious health issues. The agency urged consumers to only purchase alcoholic beverages from trusted sources and to report any suspicious activities to NAFDAC.
This raid follows a recent operation by NAFDAC in Nasarawa State, where counterfeit wines worth N41.2 million were seized. The agency continues its efforts to protect public health by targeting the production and distribution of fake food and drink products.
