New AC Milan signing Luka Modric has opened up about his decision to leave Real Madrid and join the Serie A giants.
The veteran Croatian midfielder recently completed a one-year deal with AC Milan following Real Madrid’s exit from the Club World Cup. Modric will wear the No. 14 shirt for the Rossoneri in the upcoming season.
Speaking to MadridXtra, Modric revealed that his desire to stay in Europe and continue playing competitive football motivated his move.
“Why AC Milan? I wanted to stay in Europe, continue playing competitive football,” he said.
“I had some other offers but when Milan showed up, it was clear for me. I was up to it from the first moment. It impressed me how they came to Croatia to present me the project and everything. That was very important to me. Milan is one of the biggest clubs in Europe.”
Modric is now preparing for Milan’s pre-season friendly against Arsenal scheduled for next Wednesday.
