Lai Mohammed denies raising alarm over ‘Hausa insurgency’ in viral report

Former Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has denied a viral social media report claiming he raised the alarm over a so-called “Hausa insurgency” and its alleged sponsors.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Mohammed described the report as entirely fabricated and intended to mislead the public. The story, which has circulated widely online, falsely attributed the remarks to him during an interview with Splash FM 105.5 in Ibadan.

“I categorically state that I have never made any comment regarding a ‘Hausa insurgency’ on any platform whatsoever,” he said.

Mohammed urged Nigerians to disregard the alleged interview, warning that the spread of false information could cause confusion and heighten tensions. He condemned the publication as the work of “relentless agents of fake news and deliberate distortion,” emphasizing that misinformation must not be allowed to thrive.

The former minister also reaffirmed his commitment to responsible public discourse and cautioned media consumers against trusting unverified reports circulating on social media platforms.
