Kylian Mbappe scores brace to send Barcelona packing from the UCL
Paris Saint-Germain eventually came out victorious against FC Barcelona at the Camp Nou as they faced off in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League quarterfinal tie, winning 4-1 on the night.
Barcelona, unfortunately, went down to 10 men in the 29th minute when Ronald Araujo fouled Bradley Barcola as the last man.
PSG, having practically wrapped up the league title, deployed all its available key players. Kylian Mbappe, Ousmane Dembele, Vitinha, Marquinhos, and Gianluigi Donnarumma all started for the away side. Achraf Hakimi also returned to the side, after returning from suspension as he missed the first leg.
Barcelona also sent out key players like Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha Lamine Yamal, Frenkie de Jong, Ronald Araujo, Joao Cancelo, and Ilkay Gundogan.
Barcelona actually took the lead, through a Raphinha goal in the 12th minute. This goal put Xavi’s men 4-2 up on aggregate.
Everything was still going Barcelona’s way until Araujo made a needless foul in the 29th minute that earned him a red card. This was the turning point in the game.
With an extra man, PSG started to pile pressure on its host, and it paid off, as Dembele equalized the game in the 40th minute, bringing the aggregate score to 4-3 in favor of Barcelona.
Vitinha scored in the 54th minute, scoring for the second UCL game in a row, tying the aggregate score and putting PSG ahead in the game.
Mbappe also had his say, converting a penalty in the 61st minute to put PSG ahead on aggregate, then pouncing on a rebound in the 89th minute to make it 6-4 on aggregate to PSG and 4-1 up in the game.
This loss sends Barcelona packing from the premium European club competition, while PSG goes on to the semis to face Borussia Dortmund.
