Accident leads to major discovery
Police in Nasarawa State have arrested a suspected kidnapper and recovered N6.9 million, rifles, and ammunition after a lone car crash in Garaku, Kokona LGA.
The incident happened around 9 a.m. on Monday, when an Opel Vectra with registration number Plateau BLD 566 ST crashed near the Vehicle Inspection Office checkpoint. Two men fled the scene, but a vigilant officer recovered a G3 rifle and cash before alerting police.
Weapons and cash uncovered
Police later towed the vehicle to the station, where a search revealed one AK-47 rifle, one Type 06 rifle, another G3 rifle, three magazines, 57 rounds of live ammo, and N6.9 million.
Suspect confesses
Working with the military, police arrested Mohammed Tahir from Barkin Ladi, Plateau State. He confessed to being part of a seven-man gang behind the abduction of a lawyer in Nyanya, Abuja, where ransom was paid.
According to police, Tahir admitted he and an accomplice were heading to Jos to share the ransom before the crash.
Police assure public
Nasarawa police confirmed that efforts are ongoing to track the other gang members. The suspect and seized items have been transferred to the State CID in Lafia.
Police spokesperson SP Ramhan Nansel urged residents to remain vigilant and assured that security agencies are committed to tackling crime in the state.
