Kaduna Electric cuts off Gov Sani’s office over unpaid electricity debt

Kaduna Electric cut off power to the government office of Governor Uba Sani and other government agencies because they owe N2.9 billion in unpaid electricity bills.

Kaduna Electric explained the situation in a statement on Friday. They said the government owes N1.2 billion from January to July 2024.

Even though the government paid N256.9 billion in May, they still owe a lot of money. Kaduna Electric tried to resolve the issue but had to disconnect the power.

“The government owes N1,166,856,991.87 for electricity used from January to July 2024.

“This adds to their old debt, making it a total of N2,943,060,116.77.

“Even after paying N256,920,963.88 in May, the government still owes a lot of money,” explained Kaduna Electric

Kaduna Electric had warned the government about disconnecting the power on July 21, 2024. This comes after the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission allowed a new company to take control of Kaduna Electric due to its N115 billion debt.
