K1 De Ultimate apologises over ValueJet airport drama, denies alcohol claims
Fuji legend Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, better known as K1 De Ultimate (KWAM 1), has publicly apologised for his role in the ValueJet incident at Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on Tuesday.
In a statement released on Friday, K1 said the flask he carried that day contained only water — not alcohol as some reports suggested — explaining that he suffers from chronic dehydration and was following his doctor’s advice to stay hydrated.
Clarifying the timeline
According to K1, his flask was empty during two security checks and was only filled with water at the airport lounge before heading to the tarmac. He stressed that CCTV footage could confirm this and denied ever being deboarded from the plane.
“I hadn’t even boarded the aircraft, let alone being removed from it,” he said, adding that he regretted any concerns his actions may have caused.
Full apology to authorities and fans
K1 offered an unreserved apology to the Presidency, Ministry of Aviation, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), ValueJet, fellow Nigerians, and his fans worldwide.
The incident, in which he reportedly tried to stop a ValueJet aircraft from taking off, led to the suspension of the airline’s pilots and saw the Federal Government place K1 on a six-month no-fly list.
He concluded by reaffirming his commitment to upholding the values of Nigerian music and culture on the global stage.
