Jega alleges plot behind ADC crisis, urges INEC to act with caution

A public affairs analyst, Mahmud Jega, has raised concerns that the internal turmoil within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) may not be coincidental, suggesting it is being deliberately orchestrated.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme on Friday, Jega cautioned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) against actions that could deepen suspicion about its neutrality.

His comments come amid reports of a leadership dispute within the ADC, which has resulted in the removal of former Senate President, David Mark, as the party’s national chairman.

Jega argued that the situation reflects a broader pattern that appears to be working against opposition parties, warning that INEC must avoid actions that could be interpreted as undermining political competition.

He also referenced delays previously experienced by opposition figures in registering a new political platform, noting that after prolonged setbacks, attention shifted to the ADC, which is now facing its own internal challenges.

According to him, such developments risk creating the perception that opposition platforms are being systematically weakened, a situation he said could affect confidence in the democratic process.
