Jamie Vardy equals Ronaldo’s Premier League record after Leicester’s 2-1 win over Spurs

On Sunday, January 26, 2025, Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy matched a remarkable Premier League record previously held by Cristiano Ronaldo. Vardy’s goal in Leicester’s 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur saw him join an exclusive club of players over the age of 37 who have been involved in 10 or more goals in a Premier League season.

The match saw Tottenham take the lead with a 33rd-minute goal from Brazilian forward Richarlison. However, Vardy responded with a goal just after the break in the 46th minute, leveling the score at 1-1. Moroccan prodigy Bilal El Khannouss then put Leicester ahead with a goal in the 50th minute, securing the 2-1 win and lifting the Foxes out of the relegation zone.

Vardy’s goal marked his 10th contribution (with seven goals and three assists) in the Premier League this season, making him only the fifth player aged 37 or older to achieve this feat. The last player to do so was Cristiano Ronaldo during his second stint at Manchester United in the 2021-22 season, where he scored 18 goals and provided three assists in 30 league matches. Ryan Giggs, Teddy Sheringham, and Gary Speed also reached this milestone in past seasons.

At 38 years old, Vardy’s continued excellence at the top level highlights his enduring quality and remarkable longevity in English football. With his impressive performance this season, Vardy has once again demonstrated why he remains a key player for Leicester City.
