I’m not afraid of defecting to APC – Wike
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has asserted that he is not afraid of joining the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) if he chooses to do so.
Wike made the statement while explaining why he did not support the candidacy of former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar during the 2023 election. He explained that his decision was rooted in his belief that the PDP lacked equity and fairness, which led him to oppose Atiku’s bid.
“I didn’t support Atiku because there was no justice, no equity in the PDP,” Wike said. “At my level, I made it clear that I wasn’t going to support his presidency because of the unfairness in the party.”
Wike emphasized that, unlike others, he was transparent about his position. “I didn’t hide it. I’m not like some people who say one thing in the day and something else at night,” he said. “Nigerians know me—I say something, and I do it. What I will not do, I will not do.”
Addressing rumors about his possible defection to APC, Wike made it clear that he had never discussed such a move with President Bola Tinubu. “The President knows. I never spoke with him about joining APC,” he stated. “And if I want to join APC, I’ll do so. Who in PDP am I afraid of? Who is that person?”
Wike’s comments come amid ongoing speculation about his political future, but the minister made it clear that he would continue to follow his principles, regardless of party affiliations.
