Ian Wright sparks debate as he backs Arsenal player for Ballon d’Or

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has sparked a massive debate by tipping midfielder Declan Rice to win the Ballon d’Or this season. The former striker believes the England international is currently the most influential player in the Premier League.
Wright argued that if the Gunners secure a historic double, the individual honors must follow for their midfield engine. He shared these views during a recent episode of the Stick to Football podcast.
A potential clean sweep for the midfield star
The football icon insisted that an Arsenal victory in the league would make Declan Rice the undisputed Premier League Player of the Year. However, he went a step further regarding the UEFA Champions League.
“If Arsenal win the Champions League, Rice should also win the Ballon d’Or,” Wright stated. He believes the midfielder’s impact on the team’s defensive and offensive transitions is unmatched in world football.
Record signing continues to justify the price tag
Declan Rice joined the North London club from West Ham United in 2023 for a staggering £105 million. While many questioned the fee at the time, his performances have silenced almost every critic.
The 27-year-old has already surpassed 150 appearances for the club, contributing significantly with 21 goals and 31 assists. His leadership on the pitch remains a core reason why Arsenal is competing at the highest level this season.
