Here’s what happened between Erik Ten Hag and Jadon Sancho

Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho told manager Erik ten Hag that the club “had bought the wrong player”, as both men clashed over his role in the team, according to The Athletic.

Sancho signed for the Red Devils in a £73 million transfer from Borussia Dortmund in July 2021. However, the winger didn’t enjoy a good first season at Old Trafford, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer fired just four months after his arrival.

Sancho was frozen out of United’s first team since September and eventually shipped out on loan to Borussia Dortmund in January, but tension between Sancho and Ten Hag had been brewing before then.

At the start of Ten Hag’s first season, Sancho started at right wing as Man United lost 2-1 to Brighton at home, before losing 4-0 away to Brentford.

It was after that loss to Brentford that Sancho told Ten Hag that United had “bought the wrong player”, as he preferred to play on the left.

The player’s reluctance to play on the right wing led to Ten Hag’s demand for the club to sign Antony from Ajax for £86 million.

Antony has also been underwhelming so far.
