Grammy-nominated Shizzi launches OBG records

Grammy-nominated Nigerian producer Oluwaseyi Akerele, popularly known as Shizzi, has launched a new record label, OBG Records (Ordained By God), marking what he describes as a new era for African music rooted in legacy, faith, and artistic depth.
In a statement announcing the label’s launch, Shizzi said OBG Records was created to serve as a “creative sanctuary” for artists who embody originality, purpose, and global potential, adding that the imprint aims to restore depth and authenticity to Afrobeats.
“Afrobeats is evolving fast, but it needs depth again,” Shizzi said. “With OBG, I want to raise artists who don’t just chase hits; they make timeless music. Tayor is the beginning of that vision.”
With over a billion career streams, Shizzi is credited with producing some of Afrobeats’ defining songs, including Davido’s “Dami Duro”, Wizkid’s “Love My Baby”, and Wande Coal’s “Baby Face”. He has also collaborated with international stars such as Beyoncé, Chris Brown, and Fireboy DML.
The award-winning producer described his journey from a church drummer to a global hitmaker as symbolic of Afrobeats’ own evolution — “raw, spiritual, and borderless.”
Shizzi’s first signee under OBG Records is Tayor, whom he described as the heartbeat of the label’s new movement. He revealed that he has spent the past three years developing Tayor’s sound and artistry to ensure a powerful debut.
According to him, OBG Records represents a response to what he calls a “weird phase” in Afrobeats, where the chase for virality has sometimes overshadowed true artistry. The label’s goal, he added, is to build artists who make music with meaning and longevity.
