GoodGirl LA opens up on family, schooling, and pursuing her passion

“I wish I never wrote JAMB,” says singer
Nigerian singer Euphemia Ekumah, popularly known as GoodGirl LA, has opened up about the personal struggles and family pressure she faced while pursuing her music career, revealing that her biggest regret was not following her passion earlier.
The ‘Early Momo’ crooner made the revelation during an interview with Hip TV, where she reflected on her educational journey, her strained relationship with her father, and how she eventually found clarity and courage to chase her dreams.
‘I wish I never went to school’
GoodGirl LA explained that she doesn’t regret not completing her university education, but rather regrets ever starting it in the first place.
“I have never regretted not completing school. I wish I never went to school. I wish I left home earlier. That’s my only regret,” she said.
“I wish I never wrote JAMB. I wish I ran away when my dad was forcing me to write JAMB. I wish I started chasing my dreams earlier. But I was 16 and unsure of what to do. However, when I was around 17 or 18, I got clarity and absconded from home.”
Disowned for rejecting formal education
The singer further revealed that her father disowned and evicted her from the family home after she informed her parents she no longer wanted to pursue formal education.
“When I told my parents that I wasn’t interested in going to school anymore, my dad asked me to leave his house. It was crazy. At one point, my dad even disowned me. Then, I left home,” she recounted.
Reconciliation after success
GoodGirl LA said her family later reconciled with her after she began to make waves in the Nigerian music industry.
Today, she is regarded as one of Nigeria’s promising music talents, with several hit songs to her name and a growing fan base.
