Funke Akindele named second highest-grossing nollywood writer of 2024

Nollywood star Funke Akindele, alongside collaborators Collins Okoh and Akinlabi Ishola, has been recognized as the second highest-grossing Nollywood writer for 2024. The trio achieved this feat with their hit film Everybody Loves Jennifer, which generated an impressive N1.125 billion at the box office. The news was revealed by Film One on its official Instagram page @filmoneng on Friday.

Stephen Oluboyo claimed the top spot as the highest-grossing Nollywood writer, with his contributions to Everybody Loves Jennifer, Alakada Bad and Boujee, and Aburo, collectively grossing N1.38 billion. Anthony Joseph secured the third position with his films Queen Lateefah, The Waiter, and Alakada Bad and Boujee, which earned a total of N780 million.

Other top writers included Jack’ Enneth Opukeme, who became the fourth highest-grossing writer with Farmer’s Bride and All’s Fair in Love (N299 million), and Stephen Okonkwo, who placed fifth with Ajosepo (N257 million). Adebayo Tijani and Ola Olaoye shared the sixth spot with Beast of Two Worlds: Ajakaju, which generated N253 million.

Oluyombo Oluwagbemiga and Toyin Abraham ranked seventh with Alakada Bad and Boujee (N229 million), while Odunlade Adekola and Akorede Ibrahim secured the eighth position with Lakatabu (N202 million). Ayo Makun and Tunde Babalola completed the top ten, with The Waiter (N185 million) and Funmilayo Ransom Kuti (N157 million), respectively.

These writers have made a significant impact on Nollywood’s success, contributing to the continued growth of the Nigerian film industry in 2024.
