Fireboy DML prioritizes fans’ opinions over industry rankings

Nigerian singer Fireboy DML has said he prioritises the opinions of his fans over music industry rankings, insisting that chart positions do not define his success. Speaking on the 90s Baby podcast, the Peru hitmaker revealed that he does not concern himself with whether critics or platforms rate him in the Top 5 or Top 10.

“I don’t really care about Top 5 or Top 10, as long as I have fans who rate me. I know that I have fans that think I’m the best artiste in the whole world. And that is good enough for me. I’m a very contented person,” Fireboy said.

The singer explained that fan perception and support are what motivate him, adding that their loyalty and appreciation give him more satisfaction than awards or formal recognition. He described his contentment with the connection he shares with his audience as a key factor in his music career.

Fireboy, who has gained fame for hits such as Peru, Bandana, and Need You, has consistently emphasized authenticity and connection with fans in his interviews. His comments reflect a broader mindset among contemporary artists who value fan engagement and cultural impact over commercial charts.

By focusing on his fans rather than critics, Fireboy reinforces the idea that personal fulfillment in artistry comes from genuine audience support rather than accolades or rankings.
