Fani-Kayode dismisses ADC as credible opposition, says opposition has collapsed

Femi Fani-Kayode, Nigeria’s Ambassador to Germany, has dismissed the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a credible opposition force, describing the party as a group driven by desperation for political power.

Fani-Kayode made the remarks while commenting on the state of opposition politics in the country. He argued that the ADC is made up of individuals he considers discredited and incapable of advancing Nigeria’s progress, adding that the opposition landscape has effectively collapsed.

In a post shared on his Facebook page, the former minister said opposition parties have failed in their primary responsibility of holding the government accountable, citing internal conflicts and disunity as major challenges.

He criticised opposition figures for engaging in infighting rather than presenting a coordinated front, noting that their lack of cohesion has weakened their effectiveness.

“I don’t see ADC as an opposition party; I see them as an association of people that are desperate for power,” he wrote.

“Individuals that are discredited, individuals that have no hope in hell of moving this nation forward. The opposition has collapsed in Nigeria.

“There is no opposition because they don’t even know how to be in opposition. How can they keep the government on its toes when they are busy bickering amongst themselves, fighting amongst themselves and they are fast asleep in bed snoring,” he added.
