Emir Sanusi walks over 1km to lead Eid-el-Kabir prayers in Kano

The 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, on Friday walked more than one kilometer on foot to lead the Eid-el-Kabir prayers in Kano.

Breaking from tradition, the Emir chose not to ride on horseback and instead trekked from the Kofar Kudu Palace to the Eid ground at Kofar Mata, where he led the two-rakat Eid prayer.

This marks a departure from the earlier Eid-el-Fitr celebration, during which Sanusi rode on horseback — a customary practice that unfortunately ended in violence when his entourage was attacked on the return journey to the palace, resulting in the death of one person.

Authorities in Kano had reaffirmed that the ban on all Sallah durbar activities remains in effect due to prevailing security concerns in the state.

Following the prayer, Sanusi delivered a sermon urging residents to strengthen their cooperation with security agencies in tackling insecurity, particularly the growing issue of youth thuggery in Kano.

The Eid prayer was attended by prominent figures including the Deputy Governor of Kano State, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo; Secretary to the State Government, Umar Faruq; members of the State Executive Council; traditional leaders; and thousands of worshippers.

After the prayers, Emir Sanusi was driven back to the palace, accompanied by a large crowd of supporters walking alongside his vehicle.
