Former Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing the party’s failure to rescue Nigeria from its deep political and economic troubles.
In a letter dated July 30, addressed to the PDP Ward Chairman in Aiyetoro Gbede, Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, Melaye said his decision was due to the party’s “lack of potency and capacity” to bring real change.
“This decision has become imperative due to the lack of potency and capacity by the party to deliver the Nigerian people from the prevailing political cankerworms that have eaten deeply into the fabric of our dear nation,” he wrote.
Melaye, a well-known political figure and close ally of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, is now a key member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) — the platform recently adopted by the new opposition coalition.

The formation of the new coalition appears to be triggering a major shift in the political landscape, especially ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Meanwhile, David Mark has urged all coalition members to remain loyal to the ADC, warning there will be no tolerance for anti-party activities as they prepare to present a united front against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
