Delta APC leaders clash over leadership struggle

On Monday, December 9, 2024, a leadership fight broke out in Delta State’s chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

It all started when Chief Paulinus Akpeki, who is the Vice Chairman of the Delta Central senatorial district, reportedly received a report from the Olorogun O’Tega Emerhor-led reconciliation committee. The report was supposed to be for the State Working Committee (SWC).

This upset Chief Francis Obigbor, the acting Chairman of the Delta APC, who said that Akpeki did not have permission to accept or present any report to the National Chairman. Obigbor reacted strongly, saying that Akpeki’s actions were an attempt to cause confusion within the party.

“We categorically state that Chief Akpeki has no authority to receive any report or present the same before the National Chairman. His actions are a clear usurpation of power and a deliberate attempt to cause confusion within the party,” Obigbor said on Monday, December 9.

Obigbor also asked the National Chairman and the National Working Committee (NWC) to ignore anything coming from Akpeki’s actions. He urged party members to stay calm and not let the disagreement distract them. “We urge all our party faithful and stakeholders to remain calm and not be distracted by this unauthorized action,” Obigbor added.
