Court stops INEC from recognizing Mark, Aregbesola as ADC leaders

Abuja court issues interim order against INEC and ADC leadership move

The Federal High Court in Abuja has issued a temporary order blocking the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognizing David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola as interim leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The decision was based on a motion ex parte filed by Nafiu Gombe on September 2, 2025.

Who’s involved?

According to court documents:

  • ADC is listed as the 1st defendant

  • David Mark, former Senate President – 2nd defendant

  • Rauf Aregbesola, ex-Osun State Governor – 3rd defendant

  • INEC – 4th defendant

  • Ralph Nwosu, ex-ADC national chairman – 5th defendant

The plaintiff argues that the recognition of Mark and Aregbesola as interim national chairman and secretary violates due process within the party.

INEC told to hold off on recognition

Justice Emeka Nwite ruled that INEC must not recognise Mark, Aregbesola, or their representatives until a full hearing on the matter is held.

Interestingly, INEC had already updated its website to reflect Mark and Aregbesola as ADC’s national leaders — a move now put on hold by the court.
