Court orders INEC to use NDC’s modified two-finger logo for all elections

The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to approve and use the modified digital logo of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in all elections the commission conducts.

Justice J.O. Abdulmalik also barred INEC from stopping or interfering with the party’s digitally designed two-finger victory sign as its official mark. NDC National Publicity Secretary Osa Director announced the judgment on Thursday. The party sued after INEC, it said, took the modified logo off its database and put back the old association mark under which the NDC was first registered.

Director said the first National Executive Committee meeting on 25 March 2026 approved the new logo and sent it to INEC. The commission uploaded it, then removed it and restored the old design without a reason the party accepted. Administrative appeals failed, so the NDC went to court.

The judge ordered INEC, its servants and officers to approve forthwith the modified design—a digitally drawn two-finger victory sign on a blue background with “NDC” in red at the top—for all official party uses, including elections. A perpetual injunction followed.

Director thanked the court, told candidates and members to use only the approved mark on banners, posters and other materials, and apologised to those who had already printed the old logo. The party will now run public education on the symbol.

A logo fight is not a manifesto, but it is not trivial in a campaign year. Voters meet a party first as a colour and a sign on a poster. Two versions in circulation would have split recognition and given INEC and opponents room to quibble over materials. The court has picked one sign.

INEC must now put that file back on its system. Candidates must reprint where they have to. The legal argument is over. The political work is to make sure the two-finger mark is the only NDC image on the street before January.
