Cole Palmer was once again the star of a Chelsea show as the new arrival scored and assisted against Newcastle to inflict the visitors with their 12th defeat of the season.
Newcastle battered Chelsea in the reverse fixture 4-1. Chelsea fans and players would have wanted to make sure they make the Newcastle season even more miserable.
Mauricio Pochettino’s Blues clashed with Eddie Howe’s Magpies in a fierce physical battle that saw both teams give their all and fight to the finish, with Newcastle’s Jacob Murphy scoring in the 90th minute to give the visitors hope for a comeback.
Nicolas Jackson opened the scoring in the 5th minute with a clever flick of a wayward shot by Palmer. Martin Dubravka could not react in time to the ball’s change of direction. Alexander Isak showed technical excellence when he brought down a Bruno Guimaraes pass and slotted it past Chelsea’s goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic in the 43rd minute.
Cole Palmer restored the lead to the home side with a beautiful strike in the 57th minute, and Mykhailo Mudryk sealed the win with a goal in the 76th minute.
Newcastle thought they’d be able to mount a comeback when Murphy struck home in the 90th minute to make the score 3-2, but a third goal ended up not arriving for Howe’s men in the six minutes of extra time that followed. The game ended 3-2.
This match means that Newcastle now has the same number of wins and losses in the league (12).
