Chimamanda Adichie loses one of her twin sons

Globally renowned author, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, and her husband, Dr Ivara Esege, have lost one of their twin boys, Nkanu Nnamdi, who died on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, after a brief illness. He was 21 months old.
The death was confirmed in a statement issued by Omawumi Ogbe, which described the loss as devastating for the family.
According to the statement, the family has requested privacy as they mourn, urging the public to keep them in their prayers during what it called an “incredibly difficult time.”
“No further statements will be made,” the statement said, while thanking members of the public and the media for respecting the family’s need for seclusion during their period of grief.
Adichie, an internationally celebrated writer, and her husband welcomed the twins in 2024. The family has not released further details regarding the illness.
