Chelsea centre-half leaves as free agent, joins RC Lens
Chelsea and centerback Malang Sarr have finally decided to part ways, with Sarr terminating his contract to join French Ligue 1 side RC Lens.
This was revealed by Italian football expert Fabrizio Romano in an X post on Monday, July 22.
“Malang Sarr leaves Chelsea as free agent by terminating the contract… and signing for RC Lens.
It’s over between Sarr and Chelsea, as L’Équipé reports.
🩺 Medical tests ongoing the contract will be signed today for the defender,” Romano wrote.
The 2024 summer transfer window is in full flow, having opened on June 9, and expected to close September 2.
Sarr joined Chelsea in August 2020 on a five-year deal, which means the 25-year-old centerback was supposed to be on contract till June 2025, but it was obvious the former OGC Nice defender was never going to feature much for the west London club.
Sarr had gone on two different loan spells, with none of the clubs expressing a desire to keep him permanently.
Chelsea is still in the process of a clear-out, as many players on the roster have no realistic future at the club, leading the hierarchy to sell them.
