CAF promises action regarding Super Eagles’ ordeal in Libya
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has issued a statement concerning the distressing situation faced by the Nigerian national team, the Super Eagles, who were stranded at Al Abraq International Airport in Libya.
Players and officials were left without food, water, or Internet access for over 15 hours. They have since departed from Libya and will not be participating in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier originally scheduled for Tuesday, October 15.
CAF has announced that the issue has been referred to their Disciplinary Board for further investigation.
In an official statement, CAF said: “The Confederation Africaine de Football (CAF) has been in contact with the Libyan and Nigerian authorities after it had been informed that the Nigerian National Football Team (‘Super Eagles’) and their technical team were stranded in disturbing conditions for several hours at an airport that they were allegedly instructed to land by the Libyan authorities.
“The matter has been referred to the CAF Disciplinary Board for investigation, and appropriate action will be taken against those who violated the CAF Statutes and Regulations.”
