Bandits launch fresh attack in Kebbi, abduct several residents in Kurmaci community

Bandits have reportedly launched a fresh attack on the Kurmaci community in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, abducting an unspecified number of residents. The attack occurred late Wednesday night while villagers were asleep.
The incident comes barely a day after the release of 24 schoolgirls kidnapped from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, located in the same LGA.
According to a report by Daily Trust, the attackers, numbering over 30, stormed the community and operated for hours. Several residents were abducted, while many others sustained injuries.
Local sources say multiple communities within the axis are now effectively under the control of terrorists.
One resident, Aliyu Dan Galadima, described the worsening situation:
“We have been attacked repeatedly by bandits. Some of our people were killed, while those abducted are yet to be released. This is the third attack on our community within one month.”
He added that just days earlier, bandits abducted several people in Gandun Wasagu, another village in the same LGA.
“This area has become a major target for bandits. We call on the government to station security operatives here so our people can go about their daily activities in peace,” he appealed.
When contacted, the spokesperson of the Kebbi State Police Command, Nafiu Abubakar, said he was not yet aware of the incident.
He noted that he would reach out to the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in the area for confirmation but had not responded at the time of filing this report.
