On Monday, May 26, Nigerian singer Ayra Starr made history by becoming the first Nigerian female artist to surpass 1 billion views on YouTube.
This remarkable achievement saw the 23-year-old songstress overtake Yemi Alade, who previously held the record as the most viewed Nigerian female artist on the platform with 805 million views.
According to DAILY POST, Ayra Starr’s breakthrough hit, the Grammy-nominated single “Rush,” has alone amassed over 450 million views, propelling her to this new milestone.
With this feat, Ayra Starr now joins an elite group of Nigerian musicians, including Burna Boy, Flavour, Wizkid, Davido, Rema, Ckay, Kizz Daniel, P-Square, Omah Lay, Fireboy, and Tekno, all of whom have surpassed the billion-view mark on YouTube.
Her success further cements her status as one of Nigeria’s leading contemporary music stars and highlights the growing global influence of Nigerian music on digital platforms.
