Atiku’s son joining APC called major blow to father’s political credibility, says Lagos APC

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has described Abubakar Atiku Abubakar’s decision to abandon the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and align with the APC as a major blow to the political credibility of his father, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

In a statement, APC spokesman Oladejo said the move represented “a political earthquake” and a clear repudiation of the former vice president’s choices. “When a man’s own son deserts his political judgment, repudiates his choices, and embraces an alternative path, Nigerians are entitled to ask what deeper indictment of credibility is required,” Oladejo said.

He accused Atiku of decades of ideological inconsistency, describing his career as “a restless odyssey defined by serial defections, transactional alliances, and an obsession with the Presidency.” Oladejo highlighted Atiku’s movement from the PDP to the AC, back to the PDP, and then to the ADC, calling it “nomadic ambition in search of a party willing to mortgage its soul.”

According to Oladejo, Atiku’s son joining the APC is “not a coincidence but a confession,” representing a generational rejection of “recycled politics, expired ambitions, and leadership without conviction.” He said the move also endorsed the APC’s governance record and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“Leadership that cannot inspire loyalty within its immediate constituency cannot command confidence among Nigerians,” Oladejo added, urging citizens to “read the political handwriting on the wall.” He said the era of political tourism, moral inconsistency, and ambition without ideology is “gasping for relevance,” adding, “If Atiku’s son has moved on, Nigeria certainly should.”

The Lagos APC’s statement signals a sharp political critique of Atiku Abubakar at both the personal and ideological levels, following his son’s public defection to the ruling party.
