Amorim responds as Ratcliffe criticizes five Man Utd stars

On Wednesday, March 12, Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim addressed comments made by the club’s co-owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who recently criticized several of the team’s players.

In an interview with Sky Sports, Ratcliffe claimed that some of Manchester United’s current players “are overpaid and not good enough,” naming Jadon Sancho, Rasmus Højlund, Casemiro, Antony, and André Onana as examples. Ratcliffe stated, “If you look at the players we are buying this summer, that we didn’t buy, we’re buying Antony, we’re buying Casemiro, we’re buying Onana, we’re buying Højlund, we’re buying Sancho. These are all things from the past, whether we like it or not. We’ve inherited those things and have to sort that out.”

Ahead of Manchester United’s Europa League last-16 second-leg match against Real Sociedad at Old Trafford, Amorim was asked about Ratcliffe’s remarks.

He responded: “I think if we are being honest, at this moment, everybody – me, all the players – we are underperforming this season. So we can always change that, and I include myself in that part of the underperforming.”

Amorim continued by praising players like Casemiro, saying, “You are talking about players like Casemiro, for example, who have won everything, and we know these kinds of players can play so much better. That is the focus.”

He added, “He was honest about that. The focus is to change his mind and change everyone’s minds.”
