Ondo governor flags off new housing project for cabinet members
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa says his government is on a mission to give Akure, the Ondo State capital, a much-needed upgrade — and it’s starting with housing and road infrastructure.
Speaking at the launch of a new 32-unit residential housing project on Thursday, Aiyedatiwa said the initiative will help fix the long-standing issue of inadequate government quarters for top officials.
“This project is significant as it provides modern terraced buildings with amenities that ensure the safety and comfort of our cabinet members,” he said.
Akure to get urban upgrade — roads, flyovers, and more
The project, located in the Alagbaka area of Akure, is part of a broader urban transformation plan, which the governor said will include improvements to:

Ijoka Road

Onyearugbulem–Shagari flyover

Other city roads currently under planning
He described the new buildings as a mix of 28 terraced units in five blocks, plus four stand-alone homes — all in a gated, secure environment.
More infrastructure coming for judiciary, lawmakers
Governor Aiyedatiwa also assured the judiciary and legislature that similar housing projects will reach them soon, urging patience as his administration phases the upgrades.
“The initiative aligns with our broader development agenda and underscores our commitment to the welfare of those driving government business,” he added.
Officials call it a legacy project
Commissioner for Infrastructure, Engr. Abiola Olawoye, described the project as proof of the government’s plan to reduce the state’s infrastructure deficit.
The State Assembly’s Lands and Housing Committee Chair, Biola Oladapo, praised the move, calling it a “legacy project” that will boost productivity and morale.
Even the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi, showed support, encouraging the governor to keep the momentum going on city-wide improvements.
