ADC faces pressure over 2027 presidential ticket zoning

Party debates zoning vs open primaries
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) says it is under increasing pressure to decide whether its 2027 presidential ticket will be zoned or thrown open through primaries.
Deputy National Publicity Secretary Jackie Wayas explained that the final decision rests with the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC), which will weigh internal negotiations before setting guidelines.
Internal pressure mounting
According to Wayas, the party is being pulled in two directions — some pushing for zoning to favor regional balance, while others prefer an open contest.
“There is a lot of pressure to zone and, at the same time, not to zone the presidential ticket. In the end, there can only be one candidate, and NEC will have the final say,” she said.
Priority: Nigeria’s future
Wayas stressed that beyond internal politics, ADC’s main focus is rescuing Nigeria from its current challenges and putting national interest first.
