VDM calls out Dangote group over abandoned accident victim

Activist raises alarm online

Popular social media activist Martins Otse, better known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has accused Dangote Group of abandoning a 22-year-old woman who was crushed by one of the company’s trucks in Auchi, Edo State.

VDM shared a video of the victim from her hospital bed at Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, claiming she has been there for 11 months with medical bills now exceeding ₦5 million.

“Take responsibility,” VDM tells Dangote

The activist alleged that the truck driver involved was unlicensed and described the accident as reckless. He said he joined protests in Auchi to stop Dangote trucks from moving until the company covers all medical bills of victims.

“We can’t fight you; you are the richest man in Africa,” VDM wrote. “We are only telling you to take responsibility.”

Dangote yet to respond

As of press time, Dangote Group has not issued a response to VDM’s claims.

This comes just days after BBNaija Season 7 winner Phyna Otabor called out the company when her sister, Ruth, was also hit by a Dangote truck in the same Auchi area. In that case, the company later promised to cover all medical expenses.

More trucks on the way

The controversy is unfolding as Dangote Refinery prepares to roll out 4,000 new compressed natural gas (CNG) trucks for nationwide fuel distribution. The scheme, initially set for August 15, 2025, has faced delays due to truck numbering issues, according to the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN).
