ADC condemns violence, defends committee inauguration in Borno state

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has condemned violence that disrupted its party activities in Borno State, insisting that the inauguration of its committees in the state was lawful and properly authorised.

In a statement on Friday, National Publicity Secretary Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi said the inauguration of the Borno State Transitional Committee and Membership Registration Committees, chaired by Mallam Kashim Imam, was carried out with approval from the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) and followed established party guidelines.

The party described the disruption as unacceptable and stressed that individuals engaging in violent acts “while claiming to be members of the party” were acting against ADC’s principles. Abdullahi said the party would not allow its internal affairs to be hijacked by persons pursuing personal interests, warning that such behaviour undermines party unity and stability.

The ADC also called on the Nigeria Police and other security agencies to investigate the attacks on its members and ensure those responsible are held accountable. The party reiterated its commitment to peaceful political activities, internal democracy, and the rule of law, stating it would take all necessary internal and legal steps to protect its members and processes.
