17 arrested for kidnapping, robbery in Nasarawa
The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested 17 suspects involved in armed robbery, kidnapping, murder, and rape, as confirmed by Commissioner of Police Umar Shehu Nadada.
In a press briefing, Nadada highlighted the command’s efforts to tackle crime during the festive season, including enforcing a ban on the sale and unauthorized use of fireworks. He explained that the ban was necessary to prevent fire outbreaks, injuries, and other disturbances linked to fireworks.
The arrests were made during raids across Lafia, Mararaba, and Awe, where police operatives targeted criminal hideouts. In Mararaba’s A Division, three suspects were apprehended in a residential building on Yelwa Road, where officers seized a locally made rifle and knives. Additionally, two suspects were arrested in Agwatashi, Obi Local Government Area, for conspiring to murder a woman in an attempt to cover up a ₦40,000 debt owed to her.
Nadada emphasized the crucial role of community support in combating crime, saying, “We appreciate the efforts of the public in providing useful information to help us fight criminality.”
He also warned criminals to stay out of the state, reaffirming the police’s commitment to maintaining security and ensuring a peaceful festive season across Nasarawa State.
