President Bola Tinubu has declared that he will not be intimidated by opposition figures, dismissing them as “noise-makers” who lack respect for the rule of law.
The president made the remarks on Thursday during a meeting with leaders and coordinators of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors from across the 36 states at the State House, Abuja.
The delegation was led by Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, who serves as Director-General of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors.
“They want to scare me off? That is a lie. I have been through this path before,” Mr Tinubu said.
He assured the group of his commitment to governance, stressing that he would remain focused on national affairs.
“One thing that you need from me is a promise: I won’t run away from the affairs of the nation. With you, the deal is done,” he added.
Reflecting on his emergence in the 2023 elections, the president described both the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries and the general election as difficult but ultimately successful.
“During the primary that brought me here, it was tough. During the general election that brought me here, it was tough,” he said.
Mr Tinubu noted that his political journey had prepared him for the challenges of leadership, insisting that he would not be distracted by criticism.
“I have listened to various comments. I am inspired by all of you. This is an opportunity of a lifetime to break the shackles of poverty and ignorance, to instill freedom in the hearts of our people, and to ensure democracy survives—not the noise-making or rascality of street conventions.
“We cannot submit to disobedience of lawful court orders. We must respect the judiciary, whether its decisions favour us or not. This is the essence of democracy—separation of powers, understanding its dynamics, and preserving Nigeria’s nationhood.
“We must build one country with a shared vision for progress and prosperity. That is what Renewed Hope stands for,” he said.
