Yeni Kuti clashes with PDP’s Segun Sowunmi over visit to Tinubu

Popular media personality Yeni Kuti clashed with Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain Segun Sowunmi during a heated exchange on TVC’s Your View following his controversial visit to President Bola Tinubu.
Sowunmi, a former spokesperson for PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar and a known critic of President Tinubu, recently visited the president at his Lagos residence — a move that drew widespread backlash and speculation about a possible defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
During his appearance on the show, co-host Yeni Kuti confronted Sowunmi about his perceived shift in tone, asking, “You’ve had a lot of criticism for the president, now your tune seems to have changed. So when is your own move? When are you leaving the PDP to join APC?”
The question visibly irritated Sowunmi, who snapped back: “Although I cannot see who is asking those questions, I didn’t come to your programme so you can try to be cheeky with me, stop that.”
Unfazed, Kuti replied, “I can’t be cheeky with you because I’m sure that I’m older than you.”
Realizing the tension, Sowunmi tried to backtrack, saying: “Oh sister oo! My Aunty! I take that back. Please don’t be angry.”
But Kuti sharply responded, “I’m not your aunty.”
The exchange quickly went viral on social media, with many viewers weighing in on the awkward moment. While some defended Kuti for holding a public figure accountable, others criticized both sides for letting the discussion get personal.
The incident highlights the growing scrutiny faced by opposition figures seen interacting with the current administration, especially amid widespread public disillusionment with party loyalty and political consistency.
