Popular Nollywood actor and humanitarian, Williams Uchemba, has called on the Nigerian government to take stronger and more decisive action against kidnapping by enforcing visible, severe penalties for convicted offenders.

“The capital punishment for kidnapping is death, yet when offenders are arrested, we hardly hear what happens afterwards,” Uchemba said. “If you ask me, there should even be a dedicated TV channel showing the arrest and punishment of convicted kidnappers. Until real consequences are enforced, nothing will change.”

“In countries like China, people know that certain crimes carry irreversible consequences,” he said. “That’s why you don’t hear of kidnappers operating with such boldness. Nigerians need to see that crime has serious consequences too.”
He emphasized that his call was not merely for harsh punishment, but for transparency and accountability in the justice system, arguing that when citizens witness justice being served fairly and publicly, they develop greater confidence in the rule of law.
