Wike vows to deliver Tinubu’s vision of a world-class Abuja

FCT Minister flags off key road projects under Renewed Hope agenda

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has reaffirmed his commitment to implementing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda in Abuja. Speaking during the flag-off ceremony for two major road projects in the Mabushi District on Monday, Wike said the capital city is on track to becoming a world-class urban centre.

The event marked the commencement of construction for Access Roads ILS 02 and ILS 03 (Timipre Sylva Street), which are expected to enhance infrastructure, ease traffic congestion, and improve connectivity in the rapidly growing district.

‘Abuja will compete with global cities’ — Wike

Wike, who addressed government officials, construction stakeholders, and residents at the site, expressed gratitude for being part of a transformative infrastructure project that aligns with the vision of the current administration.

“We give God Almighty appreciation to be here to construct this all-important road,” he said. “In terms of infrastructure, Abuja will compete with other known cities of the world.”

He credited President Tinubu for prioritising infrastructure development in the FCT and urged residents to continue supporting the administration’s vision.

“Let’s continue to thank Mr President for his love and commitment to make our capital city what it is truly meant to be—a symbol of national pride. Our responsibility is to support and implement everything Mr President has outlined,” Wike said.

Tinubu’s agents will ensure success, says minister

The former Rivers State governor emphasized that he and his team in the FCT are “agents of the President”, fully committed to delivering on the Renewed Hope mandate for the capital city. He described the administration’s development blueprint as a clear roadmap for inclusive and sustainable growth, not just for Abuja but for Nigeria as a whole.

“We, as agents, are here to implement the President’s mission and vision—what the Renewed Hope agenda has in store for the people of Nigeria and, in particular, the Federal Capital Territory,” Wike said.

Responding to critics: ‘Yes, we’re building roads—and that’s a good thing’

The minister also took the opportunity to respond to critics who have questioned the administration’s focus on road construction, arguing that such criticism only validates the government’s progress.

“So many people have accused us of constructing roads. I said, that’s one thing good—at least you’ve identified that something is going on,” Wike noted.

He added that road construction forms the backbone of modern infrastructure, essential for attracting investment, enhancing mobility, and improving the quality of life for residents.

Infrastructure as a driver of economic growth

The road projects flagged off in Mabushi are part of a broader infrastructure strategy by the FCT Administration aimed at improving internal roads, housing access, and urban aesthetics across the capital city. Under Wike’s leadership, the FCT has seen a renewed focus on practical, high-impact projects, including roads, bridges, and public utilities.

According to Wike, these efforts are not just about beautification but are strategic economic interventions designed to boost productivity, support real estate development, and reduce transportation bottlenecks.

Abuja’s transformation underway

As Abuja continues to expand and urbanize, the Tinubu administration appears determined to position it as a world-class capital city, comparable with other modern cities globally. The ongoing projects, officials say, will be executed with efficiency, quality, and accountability.

Wike concluded his remarks by urging residents and stakeholders to remain engaged and supportive, stating that the government is focused on delivering long-term value and dignity to all who live and work in the capital.
