Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Saturday said publicly attacking him has become the easiest way for individuals to access money from the Rivers State Government.
Wike made the remark during a briefing with stakeholders from Ahoada East and Ahoada West Local Government Areas, held shortly after the annual thanksgiving ceremony of the Chairman of the South-South Development Forum and former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chibudom Nwuche.
Speaking at the event in Nwuche’s hometown, Ochigba community in Ahoada East LGA, the minister described Rivers State as a “cash cow” in Nigerian politics. He claimed that critics often receive financial rewards after openly declaring opposition to him.
According to Wike, anyone seeking financial benefits only needs to publicly say phrases such as “enough is enough for Wike” or threaten to deal with him, adding that such statements are often followed by monetary inducements. He also alluded to reports that about N600 billion is currently available, suggesting that attacking him has become a profitable political strategy.
The thanksgiving ceremony and stakeholder meeting were attended by several prominent political figures, including Senators Magnus Abe, Philip Aduda, Wilson Ake and Olaka Wogu.
Members of both the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and the All Progressives Congress, APC, from Ahoada East and Ahoada West LGAs were also present at the event.
