Former Governor of Jigawa State and founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Sule Lamido, has declared his support for the opposition-backed coalition led by the African Democratic Congress (ADC), while reaffirming his commitment to remain within the PDP.
Speaking with journalists in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital, Lamido said his support for the ADC-led alliance is not rooted in personal ambition but in genuine concern for Nigeria’s deteriorating state under the current administration.
“Any patriotic Nigerian with the common man in his heart must give his contribution to overturn the present administration to save the country—particularly the ordinary people, who are suffering in every sector,” Lamido stated.
He emphasized that the coalition among opposition parties is a timely and necessary response to the deepening economic hardship and governance failures affecting Nigerians, particularly the poor and vulnerable.
Despite backing the alliance, Lamido was clear that he has no intention of leaving the PDP.
“I remain in PDP. It is the party we gave birth to, nurtured, and one that delivered progress to Nigeria and Nigerians. I will not leave it,” he said.
Lamido, widely regarded as an elder statesman in Nigerian politics, described his current role as one of mentorship and national guidance rather than personal political pursuit. He said his priority is to help shape the future of Nigeria through unity among opposition forces.
The comments were made at a political gathering of PDP members in Dutse, where he was joined by Senator Mustapha Khabeeb, representing Jigawa South West in the National Assembly, and Alhaji Kabiru Hussaini, the Jigawa State Chairman of the ADC.
Lamido introduced Hussaini to PDP members as part of efforts to build bridges between parties with shared interests ahead of the 2027 elections.
His endorsement of the coalition underscores the growing momentum among opposition figures seeking a united front to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), which some critics accuse of deepening poverty, insecurity, and division across the country.
Lamido’s support may signal a broader realignment of political forces in the buildup to 2027, even as the PDP leadership insists it has not formally committed to any coalition arrangement.
