Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi is reportedly a key transfer target for German Bundesliga club Werder Bremen as the January transfer window approaches.
The Nigeria international has been struggling for consistent playing time at Forest this season following a shift in the team’s attacking hierarchy.
Awoniyi’s current situation at forest
The 28-year-old forward has seen his minutes severely restricted at Nottingham Forest, managing only four league appearances this season. He has fallen down the pecking order behind recent arrival Igor Jesus and veteran striker Chris Wood.
According to a report by Africafoot, Werder Bremen is prepared to make a move to sign the forward in January. Crucially, the report suggests that Nottingham Forest is willing to let him leave if they receive a suitable financial offer, indicating that the club is open to offloading the striker who has become surplus to requirements.
Interest from multiple clubs
Werder Bremen is not the only club showing interest in the Nigerian striker. The Daily Post report indicates that at least two Premier League clubs and several clubs from the Championship (England’s second-tier league) are also reportedly tracking Awoniyi’s situation.
A move to Werder Bremen would represent a return to the German Bundesliga for Awoniyi, where he previously enjoyed a successful stint with Union Berlin before moving to the Premier League. This background suggests a potential seamless transition back to the German league, making Werder Bremen a strong contender for his signature.
