US military support to Nigeria is free says DHQ

The Defence Headquarters has clarified that the military assistance provided by the United States to Nigeria comes at no financial cost to the nation. This statement was issued to dispel rumors suggesting that the government was paying heavily for foreign military intervention. The partnership is strictly based on mutual interests in combating global terrorism and regional instability.
A strategic partnership for regional security
Major General Michael Onoja, speaking on behalf of the DHQ, explained that the support includes training, intelligence sharing, and equipment maintenance. The US government provides these services through its Africa Command (AFRICOM) as part of a broader security cooperation agreement. This collaboration has significantly enhanced the operational capacity of the Nigerian armed forces in the North-East.
The military leadership emphasized that the presence of foreign advisors does not in any way compromise Nigeria’s sovereignty. These experts are in the country to provide specialized training that helps Nigerian troops stay ahead of evolving insurgent tactics. The DHQ maintains that all operations are led and executed by Nigerian personnel on the ground.
Focusing on intelligence and tactical training
One of the most critical aspects of the US support is the provision of high-level intelligence and surveillance data. This information allows the Nigerian military to track the movement of terrorist cells and prevent attacks before they occur. The training programs also focus on modern warfare techniques, including the use of precision-guided munitions and drone technology.
The DHQ noted that the partnership has led to the successful rescue of many kidnap victims and the destruction of major insurgent camps. By leveraging the advanced capabilities of the US military, Nigeria is able to achieve more results with fewer casualties. The government remains committed to this relationship as long as it aligns with the national interest.
Debunking rumors of hidden financial costs
The official statement was prompted by reports in some sections of the media claiming that millions of dollars were being diverted for foreign military aid. The DHQ challenged anyone with evidence of such payments to come forward and make them public. They insisted that the transparency of the agreement is a core component of the bilateral relationship.
Nigerians have been urged to support the military and ignore the misinformation designed to create distrust between the force and the public. The focus of the administration remains on ending the insurgency and restoring peace to all troubled regions. With continued international support, the military believes that the end of the conflict is finally in sight.
