US, Iran begin ceasefire talks in Pakistan

Ceasefire talks between the United States and Iran have commenced in Islamabad, marking the first direct negotiations between both countries since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
The U.S. delegation is led by Vice President JD Vance, who met with Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, ahead of the discussions.
Iranian officials, including Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, also held talks with Sharif before the negotiations.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian expressed support for his country’s delegation, stating that they would negotiate in defence of Iran’s interests.
“In any case, our service to the people will not stop for a moment, and whatever the outcome of the negotiations, the government will stand by the people,” he said.
